Gas War: 5338 Pieces of UNCT Failed to Mint

This exhibit records a Gas War in the 2023 Inscription Season, in which at least 1 BTC was killed.

Exhibit Introduction:
Uncommon Labs (hereinafter referred to as ULabs) deployed a BRC20 token UNCT on December 23, 2023:{"p":"brc-20","op":"deploy","tick":"unct","max":"69299990000","lim":"6929999"}.

Subsequently, ULabs began to mint. According to the plan in the white paper of Uncommon Token, 40% of UNCT must be minted into the Vault, otherwise the vision of UNCT will not be realized. Originally ULabs thought this was an easy task because the Gas Fee at this time was only 73 sat/vB. After ULabs sends some mint commands to the memory pool, mint information is published on Twitter.

Things quickly became crazy, with people swarming in along with a large number of robots, and the Gas Fee was quickly pushed up to over 300sat/vB. In order to achieve the mint goal, ULabs had no choice but to do more than 2,000 additional mints, for a total of 6,711 mints. When the Gas War ended, ULabs found that 5338 Pieces of UNCT failed to mint, and only 1373 Pieces of UNCT were successfully minted.

This is a failed Mint because only 13.73% of UNCT was minted in the Vault, far lower than the initial target of 40%. As a result, UNCT will not be able to realize the vision in the white paper.

This is also a successful Mint, because it demonstrates the spirit of Fair Launch. The project team and community members obtain tokens at the same cost, and no one who loses in the Gas War can get tokens.

After discussions with the community, UNCT was eventually converted into a meme coin to commemorate this event. A new token, UTOK, was airdropped to UNCT holders in proportion and will assume the mission of the white paper in the future: Anchoring Uncommon Sats.
